Updates

Updates and Final Drafts
Front Cover:

Updates:
  • The subtitles such as 'Biffy Clyro' seemed to blend too much with the model's hair, so I created a shadow behind the font to make sure the name was easier to see. I also did this with 'Muse', 'Paramore' and the poster advertisement.
  • I put a border around one of the posters as the colours blended too much and it made it hard to separate between the background and the poster colour.
  • I made my own barcode.
  • I bolded 'THE STEREOTYPES' to make sure it was easier to see, also checking the spelling as I had spelt it wrong! I have learnt to appreciate the work that editors do in order to make sure everything is spelt correctly.
  • I made 'The voice behind' smaller so that I could fit it onto the model's frame, as the 'T' and 'D' seemed to blend too much with the background.
  • I made the description of 'Muse', 'Paramore' and 'Biffy Clyro' a darker, bolder colour so it was easier to read.
  • I made the date and price of the magazine smaller as when I printed it out, it was too big compared to general magazines.

Contents Page:

Updates:
  • I made the main photo smaller as it was taking up a lot of space.
  • I made the contents titles smaller, as when I printed it out it was very big. This also meant that I could write more on the contents and add more to my magazine.
  • I added social media networks.
  • I changed the posters, including one of my own photos from 30 Seconds to Mars in order to include my own experiences into my magazine.
  • I made the page numbers increase, as magazines generally have more than 53 pages!

Double Page Spread:

Updates:
  • I had originally liked my double page spread, but realised that I needed a fold in the page. So in order to do this, I rearranged the writing and pictures but still kept the slanted photos and content of the interview.
  • I changed the font on the main headline, as the speech marks on the actual font wouldn't change correctly. It also looked more formal.
  • I made the photos look slanted so that it resembled a collection of photos, like you would have at an event like this. It was also different to the generic straight photos, and was a bit more creative.
  • I made sure that the writing in the article was as neat as possible.
  • I added a factfile based on an interview from Biffy Clyro in Mojo, including who the band are, and recommended songs and albums by the band to give the reader more information. I also created an album cover using photoshop, as an example to the reader of the album itself.
  • I also added descriptions on the photos of what is happening in the photo.
  • I added a borderline between the headline and article, as well as a capital 'O' like they use at the start of articles.

Joy Division - Shadowplay

Thought I'd share a really awesome song by Joy Division, 'Shadowplay'. JD are more punk, but are also under the Rock category. There's quite an obvious difference between punk music and Alternative Rock, punk usually having more of a grungy and/or energetic pace and tone. Alternative Rock is much more vibrant and gritty and will definitely consist of electronics and modern technology. Punk likes to stick to the basics of bass, guitar and drums.

Update: AMP Magazine

Just an update on my Magazine. I changed my contents page as I didn't like the way my first attempt turned out. I based it on a Q Magazine contents page, and I think it worked slightly better than the one based on NME Magazine. I am particularly pleased with my Double Page Spread, however, it doesn't have a middle fold. I may have to edit this, unfortunately!
As for my Contents page, I decided that I didn't like the way my first attempt turned out. Instead, I took inspiration from Q magazine and tried to fit in the conventions that they have with theirs. I think it worked out better than the last one, but I may still edit it.

Muse: Live at Emirates Stadium

I thought I'd upload a video I filmed of Muse, live at Emirates Stadium last May! They were crazy, this was the first song they played, 'Supremacy'. It was the second time I've seen them live and they certainly live up to their reputation as 'Best Live Band'.

Bridged - New Band

My friend who lives in Northamptonshire and is studying Music has released his first song for his band's upcoming EP! It's a really cool rock song, taking features from The Black Keys but making it their own. My friend is the guitarist, and I thought I'd share it to help them out.

It would also help them out a lot if you'd like their Facebook page and spread the word!

Different Styles of Music

I was researching some different types of music, and found some instrumental pieces which reminded me of Alternative Rock even though they are instrumental/electronica. In some of the songs you can hear rock influences which is interesting to see how music has evolved, especially rock, over the years.

I found this song during a scene from the American TV show, 'Breaking Bad'.

Update: Front Cover

Happy January!
This is an update on my front cover. I still need to add something to it, but I'm not sure what or where. I might add a puff with a bright colour to attract the reader, however.

Cage The Elephant - New Song

Amazing new song by Cage The Elephant, one of my favourite Alternative Rock bands. I'm seeing them next month, too!
